Clash Royale, released by Supercell in 2016, had a sudden resurgence in popularity at Woodford County High School. Supercell has had numerous mobile games that have taken Woodford County high school students by storm. In the 2024-2025 school year, Brawl Stars captivated students, causing them to focus more on winning trophies than completing their math tests. After a brief hiatus with the phone ban, preventing any students from being on their phones during class, they have found sanctuary in Clash Royale when time allows.
The Woodford Worms, a notorious Clan in Clash Royale, boasts a whopping 40+ clan members. All ranging from Woodford County Freshman, alumni, and even Parents of Woodford students. The leader of the Woodford Worms, Kieran Towe, takes his position very seriously, stating, “It’s hard work making sure everyone does their war attack. Got to keep the clan active. I have to nudge the people that aren’t carrying their weight and kick the members that are letting the team down each week.” From managing Clan participation to fiercely conquering opponents in Clan War, being the leader of the Woodford Worms is no easy task.
Despite the successes, some members appear ambivalent about the clan’s status. Co-leader Earle Stilwell and member Cole Humston stated, “Kieran is a tyrant.” With Humston elaborating further that, “When we’re winning by 10,000 clan points, my participation shouldn’t matter. We’re already winning, there’s no reason for me to be forced to use my war attacks and be punished for trying to push trophy road instead”. Blake Bishop, who is highly active in Clan Wars, states, “for the team we have very high expectations that are put on us, sometimes the pressure can be a lot.”
Although the Woodford Worms prove to be the prominent Clash Royale Clan at Woodford County High School, their successes have sparked a rivalry brewing between the Worms and Senior Ty Henry’s and his “Minion” Parker Ishmael clan, “Evil Guys”. Henry states, “The worms are sweats, specifically Ramsey Knight. The Evil Guys will provide a sanctuary for low-committed players who have lives outside of the game. We’re going to steal every member from the Woodford Worms besides Ramsey and all the other sweats and destroy the Woodford Worms for good.” Ishmael’s message for players looking to join a clan is, “The evil guys provide leniency, we don’t require you to use every war attack or play every match you can’t find that in most clans.” Henry also noted, “the only rule we have here is you must be the bad guy”.
As the Woodford Worms gain traction within the school, new factions begin to form, with Students finding value in different aspects of clan life other than winning. As new players climb aboard the Clash Royale hype train, it’s important to keep an open mind about what matters to you and finding a clan that brings out the most enjoyment in your clashing experience.
