Woodford County High School has an dedicated and elite media team. They pride themselves on being involved and up to date on school events. There is not much that they miss, or neglect to shed light on. They highlight key moments in the year and broadcast it for the school to see and be a part of.
A media team, according to MA family media website is defined as “a group of professionals responsible for managing an organization’s communication and content across various channels, such as social media, traditional press, and internal communications.” Which is a good way to interpret WCHS’s media group. They cover a range of important events in the school, including dances, sporting events, spirit weeks, chorus events, and more. Through monthly Channel 4 videos, they do their best to include all Woodford County High School. These monthly pieces of content collect and recap what all went on throughout that month. This provides the students and staff with a summary of the month to see what all occurred.
These students work the whole month to produce these few-minute-long videos that end up all getting put together for the school’s information and even entertainment. These students work extremely hard on these videos to show the school, making all their work all the more special to the school. The dedication provided by these students is truly appreciated and seen.
While Woodford’s media team is very talented and well trained, their creations take more than just natural ability. They had to spend years in media classes taught by Mr.Cooley. There are four media classes, and one by one they are completed by students year after year. These students trained to become as good as they are, giving us these wonderful Channels 4 segments seen monthly. The first year is considered to be more of a beginner’s class. You learn how to use cameras, how to interact with people for interviews and how to professionally do them, and how to edit your future videos. As the years go on, you enhance each ability. You start being able to master what only a few years ago was a struggle. This program may seem difficult, however many students do this job everyday in their media class, and take much joy in it.
Woodford’s media class just added a fourth year, so students will be able to take media all years of high school. After talking to a student, Hailee Gordon, an active member of Media Four, provided a great understanding of the class duties. Gordon states, “ I have been in media since my freshman year, and before my first day in media I wasn’t too sure if I would like it. I have never been very into filming and cameras, but media has become one of my favorite classes I have taken, hence why I keep taking it. Media has become a class that I look forward to, and being able to see how far it has come since my freshman year is truly amazing. Now I am a senior, in media four getting to do something that has truly helped me in high school.”
For Gordon, it wasn’t just a class, it was more than that. Media at Woodford County is a way for some students to feel more involved in the school. It brings people together and includes a vast majority of Woodford County students and staff.
