Kristen Bailey is a sophomore at Woodford County High School and this is her second year as a staff member on The Jacket Journal. Kristen is a competitive dancer at Jane’s School of Dance and this will be her twelfth year dancing. She loves to help with children and has been volunteering with the two-year-olds at Journey Church for over five years. She loves her family, her pets and all things Disney. She hopes to become a pediatric surgeon one day because she loves helping others, especially kids. This year, she hopes to work as hard as she can to improve in dance and to further her academic abilities.

If you need to get out of your house, I highly recommend taking a walk around your neighborhood. Be cautious and make sure that you stay at least six feet away from other people. If you have dogs, many of them love to go on walks, so take them with you. Photo by Kristen Bailey.

Whether we accept it or not, finals will be here before we know it. It is never too early to begin studying. Khan Academy is a great resource for most classes. They don't provide much help for English, but they have most else. I use this for AP Biology and AP Government and it helps greatly. It is also free! Photo by Kristen Bailey.

One of my personal favorite activities is completing fill-in puzzle books. You are given a grid similar to that of crossword puzzles and you have to find where each word fits. Some will give you a starting word, but some don't. There are free apps available for this if you don't have access to a physical book. If this doesn't sound appealing, there are many types of puzzles one may try, including crossword puzzles and sudoko. Photo by Kristen Bailey.

Anyone involved in sports or extracurricular activities should spend some time this break conditioning and practicing. As a dancer, I enjoy tapping by myself and taking virtual dance classes. A common activity to cure boredom is bingewatching a new show on Netflix. I have begun to watch On My Block and Go! If you know me, you know that I am a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy, so I always find myself watching it. Everyone has a different taste in TV shows, but I would recommend to search Netflix to find something that suits you best. Photo by Kristen Bailey.

This isn't an activity, but people all over Versailles are putting stuffed animals in their windows for little kids to see. Parents are driving their kids around to go on a bear hunt to search for windows with teddy bears. It helps give the young kids something to do so they do not feel trapped in their home. One of my new favorite hobbies is calligraphy. I am not perfect at it, but I find it fun to practice and work on. I love to implement it in my school notes. This image is from the Disney book entitled "The Art of Hand Lettering". It provides examples of calligraphy writing and has spaces to practice it yourself. As a Christian, this break provides extra time to read my Bible. Even if you aren't religious, you may enjoy reading a different book. Mrs. Romine has sent out resources through email to help students find a new book to read. You may even find an interesting book in your home. Photo by Kristen Bailey.

For students enrolled in AP classes, the crucial exams are coming up very soon. Princeton Review books are a great resource to help study. They come with four practice tests inside the book and they walk through all of the content for that particular exam. The one pictured is for AP government and has post its with important points and vocabulary words listed. Even if you don't have a Princeton book, there are a number of free online resources that can be used, including Varsity Tutors, and you can study using your resources given by your teacher.
