During the first day at the new Woodford County High School in December 2024, the lights started flickering as students waited for the bell, the day continued, but issues with the wifi, odor in the ducts, and the air conditioner belts in the gym malfunctioning kept at it.
It is now October 20th, 2025, and despite it being a new school, the problems have only gotten worse. Compared to the old school, there are fewer stalls in the bathroom, which is an issue during class change. The line can wrap around into the hallway, and it takes forever for people to actuall make it to a stall. The ceilings regularly leak in the hallways, and you can spot wet floor signs and trash cans for collecting water no matter where you are in the school. Students started noticing smells from the leaks, and some students even complained about it leaking on them, which most found disgusting.
If you’re a junior or a senior and you drive, you have to pay $20 for a parking spot, which many upperclassmen have complaints about, because why do students have to pay just to park? At 3:30 PM, traffic in the student parking lot gets crazy, since there are less parking spots than the lots at the old high school. How will this situation be resolved next year, given that the upcoming grade of new drivers is one of the biggest at the school?.
Also there aren’t enough seats in the lunch room, even though the room itself is big. Since the current freshman class is a large group, the lunch room is more full than last year. When the year began the C and B lunch groups had to wait for the lunch ladies to make more food. Occasionally, students even stayed after lunch to get food, because it wouldn’t be done until then.
Some parents are saying the school should have an awning where the students get dropped off/picked up for when it rains. The elementary schools, like Simmons (the elementary school near the new high school, where most Versailles students attended), have awnings. While the new high school is in much better shape than the old one, the current issues are becoming a big problem, new issues just keep appearing all throughout the school.
