Justice Mudd is a sophomore at Woodford County High School; it is her first year as a Staff Reporter for The Jacket Journal, and it is her second year playing for the Woodford County High School volleyball team. Outside of school, you can find her drawing, playing video games, playing volleyball, or hanging out with friends. When she graduates, she wants to go to EKU's nursing school to become a trauma nurse.

Pictured is a beautiful Tailbar Cichlid. These beautiful fish have a lifespan of about 8 years and can be found in Central America. Cichlid’s diet requires vegetable matter and meaty foods!

Calling all Woodford folks! This fish’s name is called the Yellow Jacket Cichlid. These fish can be found along the Atlantic Scope in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala. They are Omnivores and grow up to 28 centimeters!

A few minutes after starting to venture out into the deep sea wonders, you are greeted with a huge “fishbowl-like” aquarium in the middle of the room. It is labeled the “Water Colors of Africa” and features fish found in Lake Malawi. The lake is famous for its vibrant cichlids and has the most fish species of any lake on Earth.

This scary-looking creature is the West African Lungfish. This fish lives in dry season areas and hibernates in a burrow that is surrounded by slime (the slime acts as its cocoon). They can be found in the backwater areas of rivers and lakes in Africa around the Congo.

This beautiful creature is the Moon Jelly. They feed off of plankton and can be found in seas all around the world! In 1991, the Moon Jelly species was sent to outer space! This is due to scientists wondering how the lack of gravity would affect the calcium and development of the jellyfish.

One of the many cool things you can do at the aquarium takes a walk across this bridge if you dare! Although all seems fine, but, the shark tank in right below it. Would you do it?

Pictured above is the beloved King Penguins! These creatures feed mainly on pelagic lanternfish and will also eat squid. In comparison to all birds, King Penguins take care of their chicks for 14-16 months! Out of all birds, that is the most time and take care of their chicks!

While taking the Ocean Wonders Backstage Tour, we were shown this area of the aquarium! This area had a coral reef; however, it wasn’t alive due to the amount of housekeeping it would require. It is there to cater to the fish that need this habitat-like area!

This family-fun area attracts all! Here you can take time and pet the swimming String Rays! They are so friendly and soft! If wanted, you can also take a trip under and come up in the middle and watch the stingrays swim all around!

Pictured here is an iguana, the Rhinoceros Iguana to be exact! These reptiles diet consists of fruits, seeds, and vegetation. They can be found only on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea!

Another fun and beautiful experience provided inside is to be able to go under the tanks in these cave-like areas and watch all the beautiful fish swim around!

This huge fish is the Pacu! It feeds off of insects and plant material! It can be found in the Amazon and Orinoco River Basins! They can even grow up to 50 pounds!

This fish is sure to bring up some laughs! This is the Humphead Cichlid! It feeds on vegetation, small fish and shellfish. They can incubate their eggs in their mouth and protect their young after they hatch!

This gorgeous turtle is the Diamondback Terrapin! Their diet consists of snails, crabs, mussels, fish and worms! Their skin is thick enough to block out the salt from water. This is why they can be found in both saltwater and freshwater areas.

This small swamp area is still in construction however it is already home to the White American Alligator. They can never be seen in the wild and their white color makes them more sensitive to the sun and makes hiding from predators difficult. A worker there even said you could sit and wait for up to 4 hours before seeing one move!

These are two shells of the Alligator Snapping Turtle and the Loggerhead Sea Turtle!

This area was for all the people who want to pet the fish! In this tank was the Black Tegula Snail. Blue band Hermit Crab, California Cucumber, California Mussel, Channeled Whelk, Giant Green Anemone, Green Sea Urchin, Leather Starfish, and the Horseshoe Crab.

Pictured above is a tank that had both Tiger Sharks, Shark Rays and stingrays! Shark Ray fins are sold on the market for expensive prices which are causing them to become endangered. And the Sand Tiger Sharks gulp air to stay buoyant.

Here is one of the string rays in the Tiger Shark tank saying hello! Look at that cute little smile!
