It’s finally time to get all dressed up for Spirit Week! Here at Woodford County we take pride in our festive weeks. This special time supports our homecoming, making homecoming spirit week the first spirit week for the 2025-2026 school year. There are a lot of events that go into these weeks. The dedication to plan and decorate to make our school more invested in spirit week should not be overlooked. Those who help and support these traditions, and especially those who participate in these activities are also greatly appreciated. There is even a little competition between the grades, the goal is to have the most participants in your grade, this will provide a strong start to earning the spirit stick at the end of the week.
Day One – Pajama Day
On Monday while everyone enters the school on their way to class they see the decorated hallways, each hallway representing a grade level. Using decorations and class colors to exemplify class spirit. We start off strong with an exciting pajama day, there’s hundreds of students wearing their pjs. This makes waking up and getting to school a lot easier! But the real dedication comes from the teachers. The teachers always go above and beyond to excel in the theme. The best way to start a week is to go to school in a comfy set of pajamas and not worry about it, because everyone else dresses up too!
Day Two – Tacky Tourist Day
Still early in the week, we had tacky tourists on Tuesday. You might wonder what that means, well the idea is to dress up as an extreme, cheesy traveler. There were many who participated, teacher and student alike. There were several different outfits formed for this day. I saw many Hawaiian shirts, glasses, with some sunscreen on their face with a huge hat. But some chose a different approach and had more of an adventure theme, with camo matching outfits, binoculars and tacky face makeup. Both ideas were entertaining but very different.
Day Three – Student and Teacher Swap Day
Half way through the week and still going strong with student and teacher swap day. This one may be, by far, one of the best! There were several surprising outcomes of this day. The theme let a lot of students and teachers see how they are viewed by what each other dressed up as. There was some true dedication on both sides for this one, you could tell right away who students were reenacting. A very funny way to spend a Wednesday!
Day Four – Class Colors
Sadly we are close to the end, but not just yet! Thursday was class colors. Now this one can get a little competitive, and very monochromatic. We have freshmen in green, sophomores in blue, juniors in red, and seniors in black. Most of the students participate in this day, mainly because not too much effort is needed. This is a great way to know who is in what grade based on the color of their outfit! Since it’s a little harder for teachers to participate, most wear all four colors to represent all the grades.
Day Five – Extreme Woodford Spirit
Last but surely not least we have extreme Woodford spirit. Friday is the best day of the week because not only is it extreme Woodford spirit, but it’s the pep rally! Which is the main reason why it’s an extreme spirit, having everyone in all their Woodford gear, prepared to celebrate at the pep rally. We go all out Woodford for the pep-rally, giving everyone the chance to wear their black and gold in any type of fashion. There’s many creative ways people execute their Woodford spirit!
This week took a lot of dedication from students and teachers, but also the people who captured these amazing themed days. Throughout the week some students in Woodford’s yearbook went around making sure there were many memorable photos for this event. I spoke to Kenley Greer, a junior at Woodford County High School who’s in yearbook, and spent all week taking pictures. She states, “This was a lot of work, but I had the most fun with it, seeing all the dedication put into these ideas, and how funny and creative they were.” Celebrating this year’s homecoming spirit week Jackets!
