The book The Making of a Navy SEAL by Brandon Webb is about his life and how he became a Navy SEAL sniper. He had a tough childhood and didn’t always have things easy growing up. After playing sports for so long, he developed Osgood Schlatter Syndrome and was not able to play sports any longer, he got a job at an early age, his family went bankrupt and lost everything and his relationship with his dad was damaged. At 16, his Dad told him he needed to pack his things and board another boat in the middle of the South Pacific. Instead of letting these obstacles and struggles stop him, he used it to become stronger and more focused. As he got older, he decided he wanted to join the military.
Webb’s years of training were exhausting, demanding and took a toll on him mentally and physically. He had combat tours in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan and intense training of Naval Special Operations. There were many times he felt like giving up. In some ways, his strained and dysfunctional relationship with his father prepared him for the mental toughness he needed to be a sniper. Webb later becomes a trainer and lead instructor for the Navy Seal Sniper program where he trained some of the best snipers including Chris Kyle, the American Sniper.
Overall, the book teaches lessons about hard work, determination, and not quitting. His story shows that success takes determination, hard work and what it means to be mentally strong. It’s a good book for students because it shows real-life challenges and how to overcome them.
