Cole Humston, an athlete, a student, and most importantly, the most spirited person to ever come out of Woodford County. Cole Humston runs the Woodford County student section and is the current holder of the spirit pants. Cole has created a new culture of enthusiasm in the student section at WCHS. He inspired Woodford’s student section to become one of the best in Kentucky. Cole picks the themes for games, leads the hype around the student section, and learns all the trending dances to encourage school spirit.
The spirit pants are a tradition in Woodford County. They have been passed down between the most enthusiastic, spirit-filled seniors for 8 years now, starting in 2017 with Nick Venn. Nick Venn passed his pants down to Hunter Hilbert, who continued the tradition by passing them down to Everett Thompson, then to Lane Cecil, to Piper McCoun, Fabian Garcia, Haydon Wells, Delano Mullins, Braxton Brock, and now, Cole Humston. Out of all the spirit pant leaders, Cole Humston has taken his job the most seriously. Other spirit pant leaders might have missed games because of work, weather, or sports. But Cole Humston has been at almost every game, with few exceptions. No matter the weather, no matter the time, Cole Humston has been there backflipping and screaming his lungs out, leading the student section.
Even as a Junior, without the spirit pants, Cole was leading the chants and getting hype in the student section. Cole also has an assortment of items that he brings to the games, which he hands out to increase the spirit. He owns a Batman mask, a black and yellow luchador mask, and a large horn that he blows into during pivotal moments in games. Even as a Freshman, Cole was coming to nearly every game and celebrating with the student section.
Cole Humston is undoubtedly the most spirited and influential student to have ever worn the spirit pants. After Cole leaves, the next spirit pants holder, whoever it may be, is going to have extremely large shoes to fill. Charming WCHS senior and varsity athlete, Sam Hash, says, “I think the most memorable part about him (Cole Humston) will be his outgoingness; his ability to get others to participate in spirit week and get people to (attend) games.” He also praised Cole’s spirit pant abilities, “I’d say out of the 4 spirit pant holders I’ve experienced, Cole is definitely the best.”
Needless to say, Cole Humston will have a lasting effect on Woodford County’s student section. After he leaves, the expectation and impact of Cole during his time with the spirit pants will be remembered, people will carry on his level of effort when it comes to leading the student section in the future.
