When scrolling through social media at the end of December, there are millions of videos predicting the fashion trends for the new year. Though there are many crazy predictions, there is one thing that constantly happens: old trends always come back, especially in the fashion world. For example, in 2020, baggy jeans became popular again, and recently everyone is wearing chunky sneakers. It’s safe to say that a lot of old trends have been revived.
Looking back…
In order to predict the trends of the new year, we have to look back. Throughout 2025, a lot of people were striving to achieve the ¨Clean Girl¨ aesthetic, which basically is looking put together. The ¨Clean Girl¨ aesthetic also involved minimalistic workout sets, slickbacks, and gold jewelry. 2025 was also the year of the comeback of polka dot print. From polka dot nails to polka dot skirts, everyone was wearing polka dots. In conclusion, 2025 was filled with a mix of new trends and old trends coming back.
How to be ¨Chic¨
Now that we know what’s been going on, we can look forward to the new year. Recently, creators on social media have been throwing around the term ¨Chic¨. Making popular videos that describe what they believe is and isn’t considered ¨Chic¨. Through all my research on these videos, I have discovered the top four things that people consider ¨in¨ for 2026. Number one: Blowout hair, the big bouncy curls are such a refreshing sight after a year of slickback hair. Number two lace: a lace trim on the collar of a shirt adds a sense of elegance that otherwise would not be in the outfit. Number three accessories: The addition of accessories to any basic outfit is a way to characterize and add personality to your outfit. For example, wearing a scarf, sunglasses, and even a simple headband can turn your outfit from basic to chic. Number four, layering: during the winter months of 2026, layering sweaters and coats with the addition of scarves creates a convenient and chic look! Although there are many new trends, it is always important to stick to what you love!
