Senior year is the year where it’s supposed to be full of fun. When you experience all of your “Lasts” like the last first day of school, the last football game, and the last homecoming. Senior year means being excited to be at the top of the school but few talk about the pressures that come with it. You get college applications, scholarships, and the question asked all the time “So what are your plans after highschool?”. For some students senior year feels like the year when everything is supposed to be perfect and fall into place but instead it feels as if it’s falling apart. By the time you turn seventeen, you are expected to know what you want to do with your life, what major you want to go into, and parents often remind you that time is running out. You see many classmates posting college acceptances on social media and showing off their scholarship offers and it’s easy for a student to feel behind and feel super stressed out over it. The effects of pressure show up in many different ways as in lack of sleep, anxiety, and having that feeling of being burnt out. According to the American Psychological Association, nearly 70% of high school seniors report feeling “consistently stressed” about the future. Stress takes a major toll on a student’s motivation for ones who love learning can find themselves just trying to make it until graduation and lose motivation for the classes they once loved. This type of stress on students can lead to lower grades, poor focus, and even mental health problems.
