Addie Moore, a record-breaking runner, is a Woodford County High School senior who is the breathing definition of what it is to thrive as an athlete. Over her career, she has drawn national attention to her superb skills while simultaneously balancing hefty loads of schoolwork—an admirable feat for one so young.
When Moore isn’t sitting in class, she spends the majority of her spare time training and preparing for the future she has worked so hard to achieve—a journey which began in third grade when she was entered into a one mile race. She was pitted against competitors almost twice her age, yet she ended up on the podium (second only to a thirteen year old boy), and then proceeded to run a 5k afterwards. Moore then recognized her interest and skill in running, and she hasn’t looked back since. As a payoff to her efforts, next year she will be attending the division one school Lipscomb University. “What made me want to go there is the girls on the team who have such uplifting hearts … and are truly the kindest people I’ve met,” she stated. “The coaches showed me how much they cared about their athletes and how they pushed them, and that meant so much to me.”
So far, Moore has had a wildly successful career: she has been the regional champion since seventh grade, was the Gatorade “Person of the Year” as a sophomore and junior, and won state championships three years and a row. Her achievements, she said, come from her dedication. Moore practices six days a week year-round, prioritizing practice even in her off season. She cited her adoration for her religion as the reason for her zeal: “Your worth comes from the Lord and not from the sport you play. Over the years, I’ve learned how mentally tough running can be, but that has only grown my relationship with the Lord … I can’t have any success without Him. Without Him, I would never have had the talent of running in the first place.” She dedicates her achievements to God, who has given her strength to continue forward.
Through her stardom, Moore has set herself on a glorious path, which she wishes to share with other up-and-coming athletes. Her advice: “Number one, trust the Lord’s plan for your life and know that He will give you success if you glorify Him. Second, be consistent and push yourself even when no one is watching. Lastly, remember that you are not alone, and that you have supportive teammates who are right there with you, so lean into them as they’ll lean on you. Teammates are a key part of success.”
Moore has more than proven herself to be a prime athlete, and as she sprints into her future, she will continue to inspire.
