HOSA

It’s no secret that discovering what you want to do in the future can be difficult, but there are many different programs both in school and beyond that can help you with your decision.   One such program is HOSA, a global student- led organization that empowers future healthcare professionals, HOSA provides leadership skills along with medical experiences.Through conversations with advisor Jesica Knight I have discovered all the extraordinary events HOSA provides! 

What is HOSA? 

HOSA was founded in 1976 with a goal to promote opportunities in the healthcare  industry. Since then,many students have joined the organization,and as of now, there are around 260,000 members. HOSA’s main mission is to entitle future healthcare professionals through education, collaboration, and experience. One fantastic opportunity this organization provides is competition! Competition is a great way for members to show off their knowledge about the healthcare industry through competing in events. 

HOSA in WCHS

One might be surprised to know  we have a HOSA chapter here in Woodford County! Well we do, Jessica Knight, or as most of us know her as Mrs.Knight has been our HOSA advisor for 6 years now!  When I asked her about her experience she stated, “I started working at WCHS in October 2020. We had an active chapter with a state officer when I took over from the previous teacher. We have tripled the membership, with an amazing 140 having  joined this year.¨ It is so incredible to know that HOSA is growing so quickly giving so many students incredible opportunities. Speaking of opportunities, I additionally  asked Knight what sorts of offerings HOSA presents: ¨ HOSA provides resume building experiences in the form of community service, leadership opportunities, field trips, competition, team building, hands-on labs, and networking opportunities¨.If you are medically inclined maybe you should check out HOSA. With all of these incredible opportunities you can get great knowledge for your future healthcare job.
