The Robertson family is well known from their hit TV show Duck Dynasty, which showed the fun lives of a southern Christian family. Sadie Robertson grew up on the show and the spotlight led to her career as a Christian speaker. From podcasts, to songs, to television shows, Robertson has done it all. She has inspired so many young girls across America to “Live Original”, which is her motto when it comes to life. Robertson has published many books, her first being in 2014 when she was only 17 years old. After listening to her podcast for years, I decided to read one of her books entitled Live which was published in February of 2020. This book changed my perspective on life and I believe that it will change yours too.
Robertson starts the book with a foreword from her mother Korie Roberson, which reveals why she was qualified to write this: because she has always lived her life to the fullest. The book begins with the definition of what it means to live. Robertson makes sure to talk about the many meanings it has and what it truly means to live. Closing out the first chapter, Robertson states, “I would love to see us go beyond just the idea of remaining alive to choosing to live.” This statement alone foreshadows what the rest of the book will entail: we need to choose to live, which is a great example to lead, especially in this world that is led by routine and not by faith.
Throughout the book, Robertson makes sure to include many pieces of advice from various people to ensure that the story is well rounded. One of the most popular chapters from this book is “5 Lessons from 5 to 100.” During this section, Robertson tells the story of times she got life advice from others. She gave five stories and the lessons she got out of them from a young child, and then she gave five lessons she got from her 100 year old great-grandmother. With this wide range of advice there was one common idea: to live. All of the advice was about not being afraid of who you are, with the overall concept of not conforming to the suppressing world around you. This advice has encouraged so many people to enjoy life.
Through reading this book, I have discovered that Sadie Roberson is a special author. She has found a way to connect to the audience no matter who is listening. She provides a beautiful way to look at the world that changes the perspectives of those who read. By reading this book you will take away many things, but one of the most notable is wanting to live your life to the fullest. Robertson specifies that this does not always mean doing something crazy like skydiving, but rather, living your life to the fullest, means crying when you need to and making sure to enjoy the small moments. She explains that once you are grateful for what you have then your life will feel way more accomplished. So, I encourage each and every person to read this book. By doing so, your outlook on life will change so much!
