The world has evolved over centuries. Technology has grown. Our economy now relies on the continued development of technology. But one discovery that has altered the way of life is AI.
AI stands for artificial intelligence, a continuously growing advancement that has affected jobs, schools, healthcare, businesses, etc. AI has spread into all parts of the world, causing harm and good all around. There have been many arguments made about whether AI is a positive or negative addition to the world’s technology.
AI has given plenty of benefits; it has improved healthcare extremely. It’s made it possible for faster disease detection, more accurate diagnoses, and even better access to care through virtual health tools. It’s also very convenient since it gives smart assistants to those who need it, better recommendations to places or ideas, and has improved navigation and traffic prediction. AI has given people a chance to improve their lives with such an easily accessible tool.
However, some people think otherwise. AI has had major consequences with education. AI has made it easy for students to find shortcuts to complete work, giving dishonest and unfair advantages to some students. It also makes it harder for teachers to truly know if students are understanding the information or if they are simply cheating their way through it. AI has also caused job loss, with a system that can answer almost any question correctly and can adjust to many circumstances, it’s very difficult for people to compete when it takes them more time to adapt to the jobs needs. There’s also the worry that people’s privacy is being abused. Now with AI, people can mimic voices, and even alter someone’s face. Making it very easy for things to be misused, or risk of data being leaked.
As we all know, artificial intelligence has both benefits and drawbacks with many valid reasons on both sides. As renowned English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author Stephen Hawking once said,“AI is likely to be either the best or worst thing to happen to humanity”. We will truly learn one day which perspective will be right.
