Icing, sprinkles, and sugar cookies galore! Anyone attempting to get into the holiday spirit knows cookie decorating is essential to the holidays—whether that be with family, friends, or even by yourself. Well, on December 10th, Mrs. Miller’s Culinary I students had the opportunity to share their Christmas joy with two kindergarten classes from Southside Elementary by helping them decorate their very own Christmas cookie.
Walking through the jolly scene led me to observe the sheer creativity of these young children: none of them were afraid to put their own little twist on cookie decorating, and the students in Mrs. Miller’s class were more than happy to help their vision come to life. Some kids seemed more focused on details while others clearly just wanted to eat their concoctions straight away. In fact, when talking to the kids, many expressed that their favorite part about the process was getting to eat the icing.
After all was said and done, the teachers rounded up the students to sit in front of the trophy case and listen to Senior Bella Ruzzene read them the picture book “I Am Max”. The students were bubbling with questions during and after the story, consistently engaged by the colorful illustrations.
The children clearly had a lot of fun, and Mrs Miller’s students made sure to make their cookie decorating experience as festive as possible. After all, the holidays are coming, and who doesn’t love a good Christmas cookie?
