Does social media affect society?

Social media is the largest growing platform for entertainment, communication, sports, and news. Many of the students at Woodford County use social media as their source of communication. That being said, the question in turn becomes, ” does social media affect society?”

I conducted a survey on some of my peers and found that the majority of the students at Woodford county find they would rather text or call than talk in person. With the exception of some friend groups, it’s evident that people would rather use social media over human interaction. what does this mean? Simply stated, social media does in fact affect society. The next question becomes, ” is it a good or a bad thing?” that is something for you to decide. Through my research and investigation, I have found that social media has its ups and its downs. The upsides to social media are that it presents a form of communication for anyone. If someone is shy, suffers social anxiety, or simply does want to communicate in person, social media is an absolute plus for them. On the contrary, social media presents its challenges. With miscommunication being a problem, the lack of social skills can become extremely difficult for a person in the future. With jobs requiring social interaction, the lack of communication via human interaction is lost. It becomes a problem and will be a problem for the future generation.

I conducted an interview with Jose Cedillo and found that his views present valid points. The first question was, ” Does social media affect society?” Jose stated that” yes, social media affect society heavily.” Not only does this support the claim but it provides a source and an outside perspective on the problem. The next question was, ” Is social media good or bad for society?” He stated, “It could go both ways.” This means that it has its ups and downs. Based on this interview and the research conducted, I have found that social media does impact society. Whether it’s negative or positive, social media has affected our society on a large scale.
