Oodles of Good Food at Doodles

A review of one of the best restaurants in Lexington

The exterior of Doodles.

Since it opened in 2008, Doodles Breakfast and Lunch has been “a locally owned, locally sourced breakfast and lunch restaurant” and to me, has some of the best food in Central Kentucky. Located in an old gas station in downtown Lexington, every dish has its own twist and is unique. The B.E.L.T., for example, is “a B.L.T with an omelette-style local egg.” Or my personal favorite, Pigs and Puffs, consists of “four pieces of bacon on top of four beignets, dressed with fresh fruit.” Last weekend, I went to Doodles for a bite to eat, and decided to review some of their best dishes.

  • One of the most famous dishes at Doodles, Lillie’s Egg Doodle. It consists of a biscuit with an egg just underneath. It comes with a side of cheese grits. While tasty, I found it to be a little watery. 7/10.

  • Cheese grits: the classic Southern food. These tasted really good, and the cheese gave it a nice twist. 8/10

  • Pigs and Puffs, my personal favorite. Bacon is put on top of 4 soft beignets, which are surrounded by fresh fruit. Tastes amazing; sweet and savory at the same time. 10/10

  • The vegetarian omelet consists of your standard omelet, with lots of cheese and vegetables. While it was very good, the omelet seemed to be overstuffed with vegetables and fell apart easily 9/10

  • Some of the fresh fruit that comes with a lot of the meals.
