Sea|mester is a studying abroad program, a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. Studying abroad with Sea|mester gives unique opportunities to travel the world, discover new cultures, and take part in the adventure of a lifetime, the backbone of the experience is an amazing academic curriculum, accredited through the University of South Florida. Taking classes like marine biology, oceanography, nautical science, and leadership, all while being on a 100-foot-long sailboat often in the middle of the ocean. It brings the academics to life, allowing you to experience your studies first hand. Living and learning in this environment presents endless teachable moments and never-ending opportunities to learn.
The first part of any voyage is all about learning the ropes and acclimating to an entirely new way of life. You will alternate roles each day from Skipper to Mate, Navigator to Bo’s’n to Engineer to Chef, and to roles that support the success of others. people who have gone on this journey say that it is the best experience of their life and they miss the boat and the adventures they went on. Between the three boats, Argo, Ocean Star, and Vela, there are many different options and locations that the boats travel depending on where you want to go, how long you want to be gone, and what you want to do.
One of the major aspects of going on this adventure is the time spent ashore. These days are spent experiencing your new destination. Whether scuba diving in Antigua’s vivid reefs, walking the concourses of the Roman Coliseum, or visiting the markets of Morocco, getting off the boat and discovering the world is an important part of your experience, and also probably some of the most fun you will have in the whole trip. you can expect to explore a variety of modes of transport, be it by foot, bicycle, or horseback. Hikes on trails off the beaten path is a Sea|mester staple regardless of the location. Activities can range from exhilarating adventure sports to enjoying a local cup of coffee while people-watching.
Scuba diving is naturally an activity that the majority of people select to get involved in and, at Sea|mester, it also becomes an important learning tool. Learning about the marine environment while diving the reefs to observe and conduct research adds relevance to our academic studies that’s just not possible in the traditional classroom. I think that a really cool part of this is learning about some type of marine animal in the classroom and then going to scuba dive to see it in its natural habitat the same day.
Overall I think that going on this adventure is again truly a once in a lifetime experience that you will remember for the rest of your life and highly recommend checking out more information at https://www.seamester.com/
