The Cheer Jackets advance to State and Nationals

On November 19, the cheer jackets competed at the UCA Bluegrass Regionals. This is one of the most important events as this is the competition where they attain a bid to the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando.

At this competition, both the Varsity and Junior Varsity competed in a Game Day and 2.5-minute routine. The Varsity and Junior Varsity earned a bid for Game Day as they both won first place in their division. The JV team also won in their 2.5-minute routine, giving them another bid. The Varsity team will be filming their performance later in the month to receive their bid for 2.5-minute as well.

The team will leave on February 8 and fly down to Orlando to compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports center. A returning team member, Sarah Bradley, says,I’m looking forward to competing on the Nationals mat again and going for the National title again.”

The Varsity team also competed at the KHSAA Regional competition on November 12. They completed their Game Day routine but added a few girls from JV to add extra spirit on the mat. In their routine, they performed their band chant, a sideline cheer, stunts, and the fight song.

After a close competition, the Jackets claimed another Regional Champion title. Since they placed high enough, the athletes returned to the KHSAA state championship on December 9. The athletes and coaches all hoped to bring back another state title as they are the reigning champions but fell short. They placed 2nd with a score of 97.2 and beat the 3rd place team by a whole 2 points! The Jackets brought home a runner-up state champion trophy and will now be focusing on the National competition in two months with the hopes of winning a White Jacket and becoming National Champions.
