The Woodford County Humane Society has been welcoming animals of all kinds into their facility since 1975. Their mission is to promote animal well-being by neutering, adopting, and educating the animals. The volunteers try their best to find a kind and loving home for each and every animal that comes through their doors. They have classes about once a month to train people to be volunteers, and they are always looking for help.

One of these volunteer trainers is Rae Mullins who has been working at the Humane Society for a little over one year. Mullins says that it is important to her to be apart of the community and to help the animals. Mullins said, “People can become more involved by donating either time or money. People can also become volunteers and they help exercise the animals by walking the dogs and socializing with the cats. The people also help by bring toys and bed for the animals to play with and so they have a nice warm bed to sleep in.”

My favorite part about working here is seeing how happy the animals get when people walk through those doors.

Starting December 15-17 and December 22-24 , the Humane Society is having Santa Claus for Paws, an event that is taking place at Kroger where you donate money to the Humane Society. You can have your picture made with your animal at Petco as well. It is a great way to support what the Humane Society is doing in our community and others!

The Woodford Humane Society is always looking for people to help them out. They will never turn down help.  Make sure you stop by and give a helping hand, either by walking the dogs around for a while or cleaning the building; every little thing counts.
