In March of 2025, the new MLB The Show game was released on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation. The featured cover athletes were Cincinnati Reds Shortstop Elly De La Cruz, Baltimore Orioles Shortstop Gunnar Henderson, and Pittsburgh Pirates Pitcher Paul Skenes. The game included new features such as improvements to the Road to the Show mode and franchise mode, just to name a few.
Starting in the Road to the Show mode where users can create their player and go through a career starting in the minor leagues and then developing into a Major League career. In previous editions of the game, users would start with their player in the minor leagues; however, with this new release, users have the option to start in high school and then sign to a college and play for that college. With the introduction of high school and college teams, realistic metal bats were added. This was a big change because only wood bats were available for users in previous editions of the game. There were eight real college baseball teams added that users could choose from, including Cal State Fullerton, LSU, South Carolina, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, and Vanderbilt.
Another fan favorite mode is Diamond Dynasty, where users collect player cards to build their team. This is my favorite mode in the game, and I have some of the best players. Franchise is also one of my favorite modes, and this is where users can become the general manager of their favorite baseball team and make all the decisions, including trades and player signings. Then there is the classic Play Now mode, where users can play with any MLB team they want, going against any opponent they want.
The game comes in at a price point of $69.99, however, it is common to see discounts and sales on the game. As of May 5th, 2025, you can purchase the game for $49.99 on Amazon. In my opinion, if you like games such as Madden and NBA 2K and are a sports fan in general, I would recommend this game for you. I know people who aren’t even baseball fans, but they enjoy playing the game.
In conclusion, MLB The Show 25 has new features than previous years, and the addition of college baseball teams and metal bats is a substantial addition. If you like sports games and are a sports fan in general, I would recommend this game to you.
