The Super Bowl
Super Bowl LIX (59) was one of the least memorable Super Bowl games in recent history. Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to defeat the Kanas City Chiefs 40-22, stopping the 3 peat. An unmemorable halftime show and boring game led to lots of viewers turning the game off at halftime. Let’s get into it.
The first quarter was a boring one with only one team putting up points. The Philadelphia Eagles struck first however on a one-yard tush push by Jalen Hurts. Heading into the 2nd quarter, the Chiefs regained possession. The Chiefs could not pick up the pace at all however and Mahomes was sacked on his first two plays on the drive and was forced into a 3rd in a long situation. On 3rd and long, Mahomes dropped back to find an open receiver but couldn’t. He instead tried to make a play and heave it down the field, which would result in Eagles 2nd round cornerback out of Iowa, Cooper Dejean coming up with the interception. Dejean’s instincts kicked in and allowed him to return the ball 38 yards to his endzone for his first career pick-six in the Superbowl on his birthday. With a 17-0 lead in the first half for the Eagles, the Chiefs would have to think of something quick. However, there was not much of a change as Patrick Mahomes was picked off once again by Linebacker Zack Baun Which led to a receiving touchdown by Aj Brown.
Coming out at halftime was Kendrick Lamar. After coming off of one of the most memorable years in rap of all time, people were expecting a great show. However, it just did not deliver the way it should have. Kenrick Lamar made the performance more based on his beef with Drake other than having a good performance and trying to please the viewers. On top of that, the sound quality was unpleasurable and led to people being disappointed. Kenrick also did not play some of his biggest hits which got him to this point such as ‘Poetic Justice’, ‘Money Trees’, and ‘Meet the Grahams’. Overall a not-very-pleasing halftime show.
Going into the 3rd quarter it was the same outcome. An Eagles blowout. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was a whopping 34-6 with the Eagles in a major driver’s seat. In the 4th quarter, the Chiefs scored 16 points to cut the lead down. However, it would not matter as the Eagles would still score two field goals to push the lead to 40-22. The Eagles would win dominantly and destroy Kansas City’s chances of a 3 peat Super Bowl and a Patrick Mahomes ‘goat’ run. The Philadelphia Eagles are your Super Bowl 59 champion!
