The holiday season is upon us and here in Woodford County we know how to celebrate. November and December are packed with community events, so find a friend and mark your calendars for a fun day right here in Versailles.
The Versailles Merchants Association is a group of small business owners around Woodford County who donate their time to host events that bring the community together and draw Kentuckians to Versailles. The VMA has partnered with the Woodford County Chamber, the Government of Woodford County, and the City of Versailles to procure a holiday calendar that’s full of fun for the whole family.
Each weekend leading up to Christmas the Versailles merchants will have special themes that make way for major discounts on holiday items. For example last weekend, November 23rd and 24th, the theme was Home Alone. When entering a shop downtown, customers told a quote from the classic Christmas movie to the cashier for a 20% discount!
On November 29th and 30th Versailles will be open for Black Friday shopping and Small Business Saturday. Versailles’ small business community will offer new sales and savings just in time for visitors to buy thoughtful and local Christmas presents for all their loved ones.
The annual Christmas tree lighting at the Courthouse will take place on December 6th at 5:30pm. At this event there will be performances by Jane’s school of dance, the WCMS and WCHS choirs, and the neighboring Gallerie will host Santa with hot chocolate and cookies.
On Saturday, December 7th there is a lesser known event going on at the Woodford County Cooperative Extension Service office center called Secret Santa. It’s a community run event in which children are able to buy presents for their family members with volunteer “elves” so they can keep their gifts a secret until Christmas day. Woodford County homemakers come up with crafts and set up shop so that kids can take part in the gifting season. For more information visit the Woodford County Extention Office website.
Also on the morning of the seventh, the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be at the First Christian Church from 8am – 11am. Make sure to stop by to support the Kiwanis Club and check a visit with Santa off your holiday to-do list. The Santa Shuffle and Kids Dash will be downtown that afternoon at 2pm open to all ages. This will be followed by the much awaited Versailles Christmas Parade, featuring the Woodford County Marching Band, Jane’s School of Dance, and your Miss Woodford County Fair.
December 14th will be Christmas at The District. The new addition to our downtown space including a stage, indoor space, and walkways is the perfect place to bring the community together for a holiday event. There will be artificial ice skating, bounce houses, food trucks, a D.J., and firepits with s’mores sponsored by the Woodford County Baseball team.
The Versailles Merchant Association’s goal is to bring the community together. What better way to do that than to volunteer at all these wonderful Woodford Christmas events, they are always accepting more help putting events together.
