Woodford’s golf team has had lots of success this season at numerous tournaments around the state. The boys have finished in the top 5 a handful of times including two second-place finishes. One of the second-place finishes occurred at Old Bridge Golf Club in Danville, where Landon Heim, Peter Marra, and Philip Brown all finished in the top five. Bradford Lacefield, the star player, has multiple first-place finishes on the season and has finished in the top 5 in every tournament he has participated in.
The boys also had a very successful season in 9-hole match play finishing with a 6-1 record, the only loss coming to Rockastle County by one stroke. This incredible record was enough to win the conference championship for the first time in school history. The clinching match came against Mercer County where Bradford Lacefield shot an incredible 6-under par (30) to lead the way. Philip Brown also contributed with a 39, as well as Peter Marra with a 40, and Brayden Burton, 40. Other scores included Owen Black-40, Landon Heim-45, Max Marra-46, Jay Wells-47, Drew Heckathron-47, Kaleb Thomas-49, Mac Mefford-49, Brayden Carter-50, and Ethan McAllister-52.
The team kept the momentum rolling into the conference tournament where they won their first tournament of the season. Bradford Lacefield shot 1 under par (70) and won the tournament individually, yet again. Other scores included Peter Marra-79, Landon Heim-81, Philip Brown-82, and Brayden Burton-93. There were also 5 other yellow jackets on the course competing as individuals. Those scores included Owen Black-98, Jay Wells-100, Max Marra-109, Brayden Carter-117, and Kaleb Thomas-104. Bradford Lacefield was also named the conference player of the year, along with Peter Marra who was awarded conference second-team honors.
The Yellow Jackets will compete again at the 9th region tournament at Gibson Bay in Richmond on September 25th. The top two teams at this tournament will advance to the first round of the state tournament, as well as the top ten individuals. The team will be striving to make history again as the first Woodford County Boy’s Golf Team to qualify for the state tournament.
