Summers Almost Here, Which Means its Time for Summer Music

Everyone knows different songs fit within different seasons. Since Summer is only days away, it is about time people start adding to their summer playlists. Summer songs bring some of the most upbeat instrumentals, flowy lyrics, and catchy verses. These songs tend to connect people back to the feeling of complete freedom and lack of responsibility. In this article, I will list some of my favorite summer songs coming from artists like Childish Gambino, Bob Marley, A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, The Beach Boys, and Kendrick Lamar. These are in no particular order and there are many other songs.

Feels Like Summer – Childish Gambino:

This song was released on Jul 11, 2018. The intro is very rhythmic and smooth, as Glover continues to compel his vocals. There are nice vocals in the back that mix well with his voice. The chorus brings a feel-good sound while being slow and groovy. I feel this is a summer song not just because it’s in the name, but it feels free, and relaxing.

Could You Be Loved – Bob Marley:

This song was released in May 1980, and was written in the last year of Marley’s life. There isn’t anything special about the lyrics in the song, but they don’t take away from the melody. The music behind the vocals is laid-back and joyful. Marley’s voice sounds tired and like he’s going through the motions. It makes the song feel relaxing, which is why it feels like a summer song.

Sundress – A$AP Rocky:

This song was released Nov 20, 2018. This song sampled a Tame Impala song called “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind” giving Sundress an unusual sound. The song starts off very odd and bizarre, however the chorus is simple and memorable. This is a summer song because it’s happy and catchy. It makes you want to get up and move.

Borderline – Tame Impala:

This song was released April 12, 2019. The song has a very psychedelic and dreaming background sound to it. It sounds almost cinematic to the point where you’re almost floating. The song flows throughout coming in and out of the dreamy feeling when getting to the chorus. Since the song is so dreamy and trippy, it allows the listener to feel peace making this one of my favorite summer songs.

I Get Around – The Beach Boys:

The song was released on May 11, 1964. This is a very fun song about the teenage lifestyle including friends, cars, and girls. The music is innovative with fuzz-guitar at the opening, stop-start rhythms and a keyboard line going throughout the song. I’ve heard the song in Karate Kid and in Regular Show. The song beings back memories of easier times which is why I think it’s a summer song.

LOVE. FEAT. ZACARI – Kendrick Lamar:

This song was released on April 14, 2017. The song includes strong vocals featuring Zacari, meanwhile a slow but catchy beat follows. Lamar comes through on the verse with good flow and delivery. The song while being slow still has an upbeat feeling. I remember hearing this song for the first time 3 summers ago before a baseball tournament. Every time I hear this song it brings back to “good ole days.”

These are some of my favorite summer songs, and maybe you can add these to your playlist.
