The Metropolitan Museum of Art

and what all it has to offer!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as the Met, is located on 5th Ave, NY. Offering a wide variety of sculptures, paintings, and other various artworks, it is easy to lose track of time when visiting!

Founded in 1870, the Met is ranked eighth of the most visited art museums in the world and features over five thousand years of artwork.

My Experience

Over Spring Break, I got to experience the Met firsthand. The cost of admission is thirty dollars per person, which surprised me. Since the museum features many valuable pieces (and people came from all over the world to visit), I expected the price of admission to be much higher.

The museum is broken off into different sections, some based on:

  • materials
  • religion
  • time periods

etc.

Many workers are spotted giving out maps, so don’t be afraid to ask for one!

Each piece of art includes the artist, date published, location, and a description of the artwork. It is very interesting to learn about different cultures, historical figures, and other important dates.

Many people stop and admire paintings, but some people come in to practice their own artwork! Many people are seen using the Met’s artwork as a reference for their own creations.

A museum might sound uninteresting at first, but the Met has something for everyone!
