Parties?

Parties?

There is this huge stigma around parties as well as teens drinking and doing drugs. Who ever said you have to drink to have fun? Some may not know that there are scientific positives to teens going to parties. An article based on raising children in Australia says, “Parties can help teenagers develop social skills, independence, and confidence.” Teens growing up are going to want to go to parties and start to explore bigger social events. Another website says that teens going to parties can increase their lifespan. It also says that being around large groups of happy people and having fun can boost your dopamine and serotonin hormone says, Melania Armento.

Now with all of these positives, there has to be some negatives. Teens and parents are extremely scared about peer pressure. I can tell you that there are steps you can take to prevent peer pressure from happening. They read as, using a confident ‘no thank you or ‘that’s not for me, making a subtle joke or deflecting away from the situation, or directly saying you don’t appreciate being pressured as well as calling or finding the nearest trusted adult. Sadly sometimes even these tools don’t work, so some more things that you and your parents can do is if your feeling pressured or unsafe create an excuse and text a word that you all have come up with if a situation comes into play. Now even if you aren’t being pressured into something but you are uncomfortable you aren’t going to have fun, this is why you have to surround yourself around good positive people to better yourself for the night. On another note, it goes unsaid but teens can go under a lot of stress between, school, work, and finals it can all seem to pile up and slowly break teens down mentally. 15.9 percent of teens do struggle with depression and anxiety already, as well asĀ  9.4 percent of people struggle with ADHD says Foothills Academy. Now you might be asking, what does this have to do with going out to parties? Well, studies have proven that going out with friends can all over de-stress you as well as make you not feel as alone and isolated. Depression is also a side effect of having ADHD especially if you are medicated so it’s good to go out and meet people your age who might be struggling with the same issues. Going to parties when you have ADHD and depression can help you practice social interactions and actually help you in school because you have now created a better social group.
