As you walk up to the front door, the first thing that you hear are the barking of the dogs spending some time outside. The silent eyes of cats follow you as you walk through the front door. Cats and dogs are generally seen as opposites, but here, they have one thing in common: they all want a home.

For 42 years, the Woodford Humane Society has welcomed pets of all species, breed, age, health, and temperament in the hopes that they will soon find a new home. They will hold the animals for as long as possible until they are adopted; some animals have stayed there for a year or longer. Compared to the national average of 25%, 92% of their animals eventually find a home.

If you are looking to adopt, the Humane Society is open from 12-6 on Tuesdays-Fridays and 12-5 on Saturdays and Sundays. There is an adoption fee ($100 for dogs and $25 for cats), but it includes your pet being spayed/neutered, tested for heart worms, a vet visit, certificate for a rabies shot, a bag of food, and more. And from now until the end of November, an Orange Overload sale for orange cats and kittens reduces the adoption fee to $10!

If you are not looking to adopt, there are also volunteer opportunities available at the Humane Society. If you are interested, fill out a volunteer application and waiver, and reserve a seat at the next volunteer orientation, bringing your paperwork with you. The applications, waivers, and information on the next orientation can be found on their website, at: https://www.woodfordhumane.org/Volunteer/Volunteering.htm
