Woodford boy’s Lacrosse is taking off
A look into the boy lacrosse teams historic season along with a few comments from the teams star players.
As the boy’s lacrosse team closed the season last year with a heartbreaking loss to Lexington catholic, they were put straight into the record books. Although the loss meant that the season was over, it didn’t mean that the names of each player weren’t talked about. This team became the first boy’s lacrosse team in school history to ever make the semifinals of the state championship. I was able to catch up with some of the players to see what they had to say about this upcoming season.
Dillon Caudill(12) said, “Last year’s team was incredible. I think we did really well because of the bond the team had and our communication down on the field and behind closed doors. If there’s one thing I could change, I’d change the last game we played and have us set to win so that way we can have a chip.”
I was also able to meet with Ben Coyle(12), ” The team really clicked last year, we’ve got a lot of talent and skill. If there was anything I’d change last year, it would probably be our schedule. We had a great record but our schedule was very easy. But I would also say we could improve some of our practices, there’s a little bit of a lack of discipline sometimes, but I think we certainly jelled at the end of the year. This year the only answer for what I hope to happen is a state championship because I think we can do that.”
After talking with these athletes, the success of the team looks promising. Their season will start earlier this year as they plan to start conditioning a few weeks before the season starts. With more and more people joining the team because of the growth of the sport, Woodford will be a force to reckon with. The team only lost two seniors and is basically identical with a few added freshmen, who make the team look even better. Many of the players played travel ball for various clubs which improved each player’s skills. Let’s see what Woodford has in store next season!
