The Fayette Mall in Lexington is a very popular shopping spot, and with that being said, it is used as a hangout spot as well for many people, mostly teenagers. For years teenagers have been visiting the mall to socialize and shop, whether it be in groups, pairs, or by themselves.

Recently, Fayette Mall has implemented a new regulation called the “youth escort policy”. This policy will require all mall go-ers under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older on Fridays and Saturdays after 4:00 PM. If the minor does not abide by the new regulation, they will be asked to leave.

The “Youth Escort Policy” entails . . .

  • All mall visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian age 21 or older on Fridays and Saturdays after 4:00 PM, or they will be asked to leave.
  • Security will begin monitoring those entering the mall during hours that the policy is in effect.
  • Unescorted minors shopping before 4:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays must leave before 4:00 PM or have a parent/guardian attend with them.
  • The acceptable forms of identification is a state-issued photo ID, school ID, or from an employer.
  • Those under 18 that are employed within the mall will be given a special ID so they are able to be allowed in, but must leave after their shift.
  • A parent over 21 may escort all of his/her children, and up to 3 youths, but once of the youths must be a child of the parent/guardian.
  • The parent/guardian is responsible for the actions of the minor they are escorting.
  • If the minor is banned from the mall, the adult escorting them will be banned as well for the same amount of time.

This policy is currently in effect, and was placed on March 20, 2020.
