Homeschooling/Online school: The Process

Sarah Newnam, Staff Reporter

We all talk about wanting to be homeschooled or online schooled but, do we actually know how to? Today I sat down with Avonne Rodriguez, a junior hoping to spend her senior year in an online school, to ask her about her experience.

Q: What exactly is the process to be homeschooled?

A: You file a letter of intent and give it to the school that you want to be homeschooled.

Q: Why do you want to be homeschooled?

A: Because I hate this school, I would do better being online schooled.

(We then talked about our shared hatred for the smell of the school.)

Q: What advice do you have for anyone who wants to be online or homeschooled?

Don´t expect that you can just sit around all day and not do work, you have to hold yourself accountable.

— Avonne Rodriguez

A: Yes, do your research beforehand and don’t expect that you can just sit around all day and not do work, you have to hold yourself accountable.

Q: Do you think there is any stigma around homeschooling, if so why?

A: Yes I do, I think it because some people think they can be online schooled and not do any work.

Q: What will you miss about school?

A: I will miss my friends, I know I can see them outside of school but school is where I see them the most.
