Elegance of Perspective

Sunset in busy downtown Versailles

Catie Heerman, Staff Reporter

For as long as I can remember, I have firmly belived the same thing about the town I live in: Versailles is boring. I take the same walking route home each day, and pass by the same dull buildings and signs, hoping that maybe something interesting will appear and change the look of the town into a fresh urban city. Although I take the same walk downtown multiple times per week, I always saw Versailles the same way; that is, until I realized the importance of perspective.

  • Something as simple the wooden stairs on the side of the Newday Church are elegant and interesting.

    '
  • The metalwork on some of the old downtown buildings are highly intricate, and are typically unnoticed.

    '
  • After passing this downtown building many, many times, I had previously failed to see the tilework on the front steps.

    '
  • Just outside the police department, the antique “no firearms permitted” sign is eyecatching.

    '
  • Beautiful marble goes fully overlooked on a daily basis.

    '
  • Even the planting grates for the tiny trees lining the sidewalks are detailed in metal ivy leaves.

    '
  • Reflected at sunset, the architecture of background buildings shines in a pattern of frosted glass.

    '
  • Looking down to the ground, I found views I would never expect; simple, yet peaceful and interesting.

    '
  • Just by changing my perspective and searching for the small details, I transformed by view of my home town.
