WTYA Holiday Festival Spectacular!
Join the Woodford Theatre Young Artists for their Holiday Festival! A 40-minute show, four 10 minute plays, caroling, and so much more!
Woodford Theatre gives many opportunities for adults to be involved in many shows during the season, but not many people are aware of the many opportunities available for kids and teens. From the junior shows put on over Summer break, to their prestigious Woodford Theatre Young Artists program (WTYA), this program is targeted specifically for kids and teens. In this program there is a great amount of diversity in age, with the minimum grade level being 6th grade all the way to 12th grade.
WTYA is essentially a theatre training program for kids. Participants get two private vocal lessons, audition help, dance classes once a week, and a full group rehearsal on Sundays. This semester, the young artists are focused on the holiday season, and the Director of the program has decided to do something very different for this year’s holiday production. Instead of putting on a junior version Christmas show like last year’s Elf Jr., she has decided to split the middle and high school students up. This year the middle school students will be putting on the production, Frog and Toad and the high school students were given the task of teaming up, dividing into four groups, and writing 10-minute plays.
There are four categories that will be showcased in this 40 minute time slot: two straight plays, a dance piece, and a musical piece. Each play is directed by another student in WTYA, and each student will have the opportunity to tech for another group.
