The Woodford County football team recently got to take a trip down to Orlando, Florida! The team took on the Heritage Palm Bay Panthers at their home field in Palm Bay, Florida beating them 35-17! They earned some time to have fun down at Universal Studios and the beach after the big win.
September 19th the Woodford County Yellow Jackets went against the Heritage Palm Bay Panthers. The game started off with the Jackets getting the ball. It wasn’t long before junior running back Darrian Tomlin scored the first touchdown of the game. Darrian was also the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the game. The Yellow Jackets’ defensive line was dominating the line of scrimmage. Junior defensive lineman Josiah McKee was destroying blocks making it difficult for the offense to run the ball. McKee also proceeded to win “Most Valuable Player on Defense.” He currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky and is an unstoppable force coaches need on the defensive line. When the Jackets got the ball back, the receiving core comprised of Grayson Hodge Junior and Omari Jointer Junior, were a threat to the defense they were showing out making catch after catch. The yellow jackets offensive line was making it a breeze to score the ball making room for Darrian Tomlin to run the score up. The Panthers tried to run plays to the outside, but sophomore linebacker Kade Gilliam was a force! Gilliam led the team in tackles this game with 12 tackles. He is a young prospect colleges should keep their eye on for the near future. The Woodford County football team made history being the first team to win against a team in Florida!
This team is surely one to watch in the future. There are so many promising and talented players that are sure to get to the college level. There are rumors they will play next year’s out of state game in Hawaii!
