The first day of high school is a fresh start for students and teachers alike. Many parents like to think about how their child’s first day of school will unfold. Still, not many people consider the thought and effort that teachers put into organizing classes and ensuring students receive the best learning experience.
For instance, Woodford counties new art teacher, Mrs. Schmidt explained what she did to prepare for the first day. Mrs. Schmidt said, “I explored the room thoroughly and I checked how much clay I had and how much paint I had. I also checked all the supplies that were still in the room from the previous year and made a list of things to order. I also arranged the tables and checked how many students I had in all my classes.” Mrs. Schmidt also needed to make a class plan, which required a good deal of physical and mental effort. Teachers may also choose motivational posters so students feel engaged and motivated. Many teachers even plan icebreakers and team-building activities to help students relieve some pressure and stress.
Although plenty of effort has already been put in by this point, it doesn’t end here; teachers also look at student records to get a better understanding of who is in their class and look at notes left by previous teachers to help support certain students from day one. Additionally, they consult counselors and administrators to ensure everything is going to plan. Before the school even opens, teachers have already given time to produce the best possible experience for incoming students.
The first day isn’t just about starting a new year, but it’s also about the weeks of thoughtful planning that took place by the teachers and staff for students to be able to succeed throughout the school year. So, the next time you walk into your first day, remember what it took for your teachers to present such a welcoming environment
