Woodford Boys Tennis has finished the Region 8 Tournament, and they had an extremely impressive performance. In the Region 8 Tournament, each team in the Region brings 6 players, 2 singles players, and 2 doubles teams. These players are each placed into a bracket of 32 players. 8 of these players/doubles teams receive a seeding, and the rest are placed randomly in the bracket. The Woodford Team had Mo Hash seeded 5th in the singles tournament and the doubles team of Blake Bishop and Sean Williams seeded 8th. Woodford also brought senior Jackson Pernice as their second singles player and junior Gavin Banks with 8th grader Jackson Johnson as their second doubles team. For a player/doubles team to make it to the KHSAA State Tournament, they must reach the semifinals of the regional tournament.
In the first round of the Regional Tournament, Mo Hash picked up an easy win 6-0, 6-0, Bishop/Williams also won convincingly 6-0, 6-0, Banks/Johnson won 6-1 6-0, and senior Jackson Pernice unfortunately fell in the first round 1-6, 1-6.
In the second round, Mo Hash’s opponent defaulted, so he automatically moved on. Bishop/Williams picked up a win 6-4, 6-0, and Banks/Johnson fell 2-6, 1-6 to the #3 seed.
In the quarterfinals, Mo Hash won in a huge match against the #4 seed 7-6, 4-6, 10-4 (In high school tennis, when the first 2 sets are split, a 10-point tie-breaker is played instead of another set.) Bishop/Williams unfortunately fell 2-6, 1-6 to the #1 seed.
In the semifinals, Hash fell 0-6, 0-6 to the #1 seed as he had to play 20 minutes after his exhausting quarterfinal match.
Overall, Woodford Tennis had an extremely impressive showing at the regional tournament, reflective of their great season overall. Look forward to seeing Mo Hash in the KHSAA State Tournament.
