After Just for the Summer, I have been going through Abby Jimenez’s books like crazy. I started with Just for the Summer and then read Part of Your World, Yours Truly, Life’s too Short, Say You’ll Remember Me, and now I am currently reading The Friend Zone. I am trying to get through all of them before the summer so that anyone who enjoys reading book reviews can see this and get inspiration for their next summer read. After I read The Friend Zone, I just need to read Happily Ever After Playlist, and then I will be done with all of her books, not including some of her short stories and her next book that is coming out next Spring!
All of Abby Jimenez’s books are, at least to me, summer books. They are all fun, bright, and airy romance books that are perfect for relaxing on the beach. I enjoyed reading Just For The Summer while on my trip to Lake Michigan and think it is the perfect spot to start a book. I wanted to talk about Abby Jimenez’s book, Yours Truly. This book is one of her most popular books and is highly recommended on BookTok (TikTok but for books ). It has a very unique perspective about different mental health issues and can be very relatable to some who are also experiencing similar issues.
Bri is a nurse at Royaume Northwestern Hospital, is days away from finalizing her divorce, and her brother is also running out of time unless he finds a kidney donor. To say she is in a funk is an understatement. Then comes Dr. Jacob Maddox. He is new to Royaume and is not making the best first impression. Bri and all of her colleagues are already tired of this new guy and are ready to block him out of their minds when they run into each other in the “ sob closet “. From there, it is all love letters and the start of their relationship.
I liked this book because it was one of the best fake-dating tropes I have read so far. I enjoyed the way Abby wrote it because, from her previous books, it was a quick read, only because of the way she writes her books. She knows how to hook you into the book from the start, and from then on, I could not put the book down. The plot never lightened up, it just kept going at a nice pace. It, of course, had its slower moments, but it was not a problem, considering every romance novel has to have a sort of slow period in it to make the book good and intriguing to the audience. I liked the ending, but I obviously can’t share what happens, but the way that it was written and the storyline were so good! It was a very good depiction of depression and the communication that comes with having a healthy relationship while struggling with depression.
If you like a closed proximity and a fake dating trope then I highly suggest this book! It is one of the most popular Abby Jimenez books and is a part of the Part of Your World and Just for the Summer “Series” ( It’s not necessarily a series, it can be a stand alone book but it has some recurring characters ). I highly suggest reading this book along with the other Abby Jimenez books if you are into rom-coms!
