Many Woodford County Seniors are in the midst of figuring out their journey for after high school. As many people know, the process of applying to schools as a student wanting to go to college is very tedious and requires much patience. I interviewed students about their future plans and the process to get them where they want to be.
Senior Cassidy Stiefel explains her journey navigating the process of applying to college. Cassidy has always known she wanted to end up at University of Kentucky. Cassidy started her application process in October by applying on the UK website. She explains “I heard back two days after and was pleased to know I got in on scholarship.” When asked what drew her to UK she said, “I have grown up around Kentucky fans and have loved the campus and community surrounding UK my whole life.”. Cassidy explained that the application process for the UK was very simple, and easy when applying early. Cassidy says “The counselors and staff at UK have been very supportive and welcoming and have helped me with anything I might need.” However, while Cassidy’s application process was relatively simple, some students found that they were much more tedious.
The constant hunt on where to go to school continues every year with every individual student. Student at WCHS, Addison Harris states, “I was convinced my whole life, up until this past November, that I was going to attend college out of state.” Whenwhen asked what changed her mind she said, “Thinking of being 2 hours away from home instead of 6 and a ½ sounded much better to me. I am very close with my family and I’m glad I will be able to visit more often.” Addison Harris used what many other students use to apply to schools. Common App. Common App is an app where students can easily apply to multiple colleges at once.
While students are deciding on colleges and juggling many senior struggles, there are still many things for students to look forward to in the next few weeks. One being Project Grad. This raises money for the senior class to have a fun night after graduation and support their post graduation plans. Another upcoming event seniors have is the elementary school walk through where the seniors attend their alma mater elementary school in their cap and gowns as a full circle moment. Overall, the seniors have a lot to look forward to and are going to do awesome things with their futures.
