As juniors, we are preparing for our senior year. We are thinking about college already, even if people say we have a bunch of time, we feel like we don’t. As juniors, we have more homework than sophomores and freshmen and are not given as much slack as seniors. We have to try and cram in homework while studying for tests that can have major impacts on our future, and try to make sure we can meet the requirements of scholarships. There is so much pressure put on our shoulders, and it’s hard for us to keep up with it all. Then, to add to that intense pressure, we are given a new problem to worry about: Individual Learning Paths.
Also known as ILPs, these are a new requirement in Kentucky schools according to the Kentucky Board of Education. Starting 2024-2025 all students from 6th to 12th grade are going to have to do the ILPs which is now a graduation requirement.
According to Michelle Sircy of the Office of teaching and learning at the Kentucky Department of Education the ILPs are required from the sixth grade onward. This means that all schools are required by law to have the students participate in the Individual Learning Path programs.
As annoying as they are for both students and teachers, they had no choice but to make us do the program. It is a requirement starting from sixth grade to twelfth and so now it is a part of our education. Even though it was tedious and pointless the teachers had no choice but to implement the system in every grade including 11th grade and have every student including Juniors participate in it.
