Starting this month off strong we had our very own Lady Jackets competing in the region 8 tournament. It kicked off on March 3rd when they played against South Oldham. After their final game against the Anderson County Bearcats, the varsity team reflected on their successful 2024-2025 season with a record of 18-8.
Additional sports news brings us to the boys lacrosse team who had an exciting start to their season, with the first home game of 2025 ending in a crushing win over Dunbar on March 7th.
The girls lacrosse team also had a close win over Shelby County going into spring break with a final score of 10-9.
National news is becoming more controversial, especially regarding the president and his tariffs. In an attempt to prevent drug trafficking from China, Mexico and Canada, and boost the American economy, Trump has implemented several tariffs on importing countries. Due to these taxes, prices of groceries are skyrocketing, and citizens are scrambling to find ways to afford everyday items. Trump has also proposed the idea of annexing Greenland and even Canada.
Big news on the state-wide front, the age requirement to get a permit has been lowered to 15 years of age. Additionally, the permit holder must have their permit for 180 days if they are already 16, or until their 16th birthday, instead of the 6 month-window they had to hold before.
Jackson Gray earned a new school record for Pole Vault, jumping a whopping 16 feet at the Bourbon County Relays meet on Friday March 28th.
The new WCHS auditorium held a major event this month when it hosted the Little Mermaid’s opening night on March 23rd. Read more about the Little Mermaid performance here.
Juniors and Seniors left for the annual Spain trip on Thursday, March 27th to and were gone for around a week exploring the country. The trip is for students who have completed the Spanish 3 course here at WCHS.
By the end of the month, the stats are showing that Europe had its warmest March on record. Climate Change has become more evident across the globe, especially on the European continent. In 2024, Europe produced 767 million tons of CO2 equivalents.
