The ACT is coming up, which means the Sophomore class has to take it for the first time, along with the Juniors. I can understand that most people are probably quite stressed but I am here to let you know that it’s not that bad. Infact, as someone who has taken the ACT already, I will be giving you some tips on how to take the ACT well.
My first and main tip is that you should stay calm during the test itself. The more you worry and panic, the more you’ll get wrong. When I took the test, I attempted to stay as calm as possible, but did struggle with the math portion. If you have no time and 5 questions left, I recommend just picking C for the rest of the questions.
Another piece of advice I got was to not worry if you get a score that isn’t benchmark as you can retake it 2 more times. As a Sophomore and Junior, you take the ACT for free. That being said, in your senior year, you can take it again for around 65 dollars. It’s also a good habit to make sure you know the material for what you think will be your worst subjects. Simply look up, “ACT ___ Practice Problems” and you’ll see something that you can use to practice. .
The last tip I have is the most important one. This is a bit of insider knowledge about the ACT. The main difficulty is the fact that the ACT expects you to know the questions beforehand. When you walk into the classroom, your biggest enemy is yourself. Simply knowing or just acting like you know the questions should be enough to get you an alright score.
Overall, ACT day is stressful for many, but if you can remain calm and confident, your chances of succeeding become much higher.
