As Spring training is here, many baseball fans are excited about the upcoming season and one of those teams is the Cincinnati Reds with one of the youngest cores in all of major league baseball. The headline is star shortstop Elly De la Cruz, who is only 23 years old, is the definition of a 5-tool player. He has one of the strongest arms, can run the fastest and hit the ball the furthest.
This past season, the Reds fired their manager, David Bell, and many were questioning it, but then they made a home run hire in Terry Francona, who was once the Cleveland Guardians manager but stepped down due to heart problems. But these aren’t the only bright spots in the organization, their pitching staff could be one of the best in all of baseball, with the ace being Hunter Greene, who finished 6th in Cy Young voting and having his 2nd all-star appearance.
Followed behind by left-hander Nick Lodolo, who has some of the best stuff of anyone, but injuries have riddled his career so far, but when healthy has some of the nastiest stuff in the MLB with a crossfire delivery, is very hard to pick up for a hitter. An off season acquisition was former Kansas City Royal Brady Singer who was a very reliable pitcher his time in Kansas City the Reds got him for former beloved Red Jonathan India who was a very solid infielder in his time with Cincinnati but the Reds ultimately just had too many infielders and he was the odd man out this was a win win trade for both teams in a lot of peoples eyes.
As the Major league baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint there is no way to tell if this Reds team will be different than the past 5 years, but all signs are pointing that the National League Central division is very down this year as all the teams are pretty even the Reds could have a chance to win it down the stretch.
