The new school has brought many new opportunities with a great new design and modernization. This school is a great new piece of architecture in Woodford County, making the old school like somewhat of a shack. However, there has been a big problem with this school: the wifi. The school has started off with a new wifi service called “Woodford Secure”.
I remember very clearly in the 4th block on black day, sitting and trying to do work, however, I couldn’t get anything done. I kept wondering what the problem was and I looked down in my bottom left corner to notice that the wifi was not connected. I tried to get rid of the wifi and then get back on it, but it still just had the wifi bar just going up and down, trying to connect. Finally, it connected, but within 30 seconds it went back to the way it was. I was confused about what was happening; it said that the wifi was strong but wasn’t working.
This was annoying. I feel like this new school should have great wifi and a high speed connection. That was a complaint about the old school, since there were many points where the Wi-Fi didn’t work at all. Therefore many people thought this new modern school would have a great wifi connection. Early on, though, the wifi just didn’t work and it made it hard for teachers to teach and get their lessons going when students couldn’t use their Chromebooks. Some students tried to combat this problem by switching their wifi to the former ‘Woodford PODNET’ network, but for some students, the ‘Woodford PODNET’ didn’t work.
All the school staff saw these problems and decided to take action. In the afternoon, right after I started having internet problems, I heard right before track practice that they were going to reset the Wi-Fi.
This all seemed to work though and the wifi seemed to be fixed. I had no problems at all the day right after they reset the wifi. Ever since this moment, I believe that the wifi has been immaculate and has not caused any more problems. This has finally created reliable wifi, unlike the old school, and makes it a great new asset to this new school. However, cell phones do still have problems getting connected over in the gym area. However, I feel like the vicinity of the storm shelter — with its abnormally thick walls — has an effect on this, making it hard for phones to get a signal. However, this wasn’t the main problem; it was the wifi connection with Chromebooks. This, thankfully, now seems to be fixed, and no more problems have affected students’ learning.
