Fishing is one of the world’s most popular activities. From creeks catching blue-gills, to the ocean catching Goliath Groupers, fishing is one of the most active hobbies and activities. I, personally, get the chance to freshwater fish more than I get to saltwater fish, however I enjoy saltwater fishing more. When I freshwater fish, I am mainly targeting 1-3 species, however, in saltwater, I can fish for a very wide range of species.
When it comes to freshwater, I am way more actively engaging in largemouth bass fishing, as well as smallmouth bass and catfish. I go out nearly every weekend or so when I get the chance to fish. I am on the bass fishing team here at Woodford County and I also do small tournament trails when I get the chance. I really enjoy freshwater fishing as it is a way to get out on the water and do what I love, but most of the time it is mainly waiting around and taking hundreds of casts before you get that special bite. But that is the beauty of it: being in God’s creation and being out on the water.
Saltwater fishing takes the cake for being the most fun activity. From the thousands of species of fish, to the battle against the fish there is just something special about catching a big one. My favorite species to fish for in saltwater has got to be going inshore and fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, and many other incredible creatures. The fight that the saltwater fish give is a lot better and more powerful than that of a freshwater fish. Another big factor for me is the weather. In Kentucky, it is a lot harder to fish year round than it is in places like Florida as it gets colder here. This is why saltwater fishing is better than freshwater.
Saltwater fishing is also better than freshwater fishing due to the amount of fish you are able to catch at once. The amount of locations that saltwater fishing can bring you to is one of a kind and is not something that freshwater can do. From Maine to Miami, fishing is a one-of-a-kind activity that can lead to many awesome opportunities.
