We all love winter, right? Surely we all must because this snow is never ending– that is not an exaggeration, either! It has been snowing nonstop since we returned from winter break. Only a little bit ago did we get a break. But now we’re stuck on another NTI day because Mother Nature decided she wanted to mess with us for a bit.
It is rightfully unfair that we also experience what amounts to a blizzard after Christmas. The day most associated with snow did not have snow, but ice blanketed us a day or two later. The ice, by far, was the worst offender, however.
Readers of the Jacket Journal, I would like to present you a tale of woe*. I had to take out the trash on an icy winter Monday night. No this is not a metaphor, just trust me. I had everything I needed and I walked outside to my bin as I tried to lift the lid… Only to find it was frozen shut because of the freezing temperatures outside. I had to smash open my bin with a pair of pliers to get the lid open. As I prepare to move the bin outside I struggle to move the bin as I discover the wheels were also frozen and had to be chipped open. Repeat this for the recycle and then the giant planes of ice where I almost slipped not once, not twice, but thrice. Safe to say everywhere else looked like summer compared to my experience.
*This story is exaggerated for comedic effect. I did have to break open my trashcan like a raccoon and pull my bins through rough ice.
I can only wish that this weather will soon fade away and we can go back to some sense of normalcy. If you have any anecdotes you would like to share, send an email over and I’ll see what I can do… Assuming we don’t have another NTI day.
ADDENDUM – FEBRUARY 12th
We did. Dear Reader today February 12th we just got back from an NTI day and I am personally agitated. I wrote the article you read above back in January after the harsh blizzards we experienced, now I come back to update you and say I jinxed you all, I’m sorry.
Never-ending Winter
The Second and Third Winter is upon us, and the false spring is over.
