My main goal in life is to have the tools and time to make what I want to. It’s one of the four main things I do in the time I get to actually use for something beneficial. Here I shall show a bit of my behind-the-scenes work for my projects and where I want to walk on the trails of Happy Working Fun Time.
Every big project I do just exists to be media which makes you feel something.
Cell Animation
New video scene 2 setup.
I did a few frames of pencil animation for these weirdos on paper then copied them onto transparent acetate sheets. I had to switch out the paintings and take a photograph each frame, which is called cel animation. Studios used to come together to sequence thousands of these for animated productions, and helping keep this form alive is very fun. I drew and painted the background to fit the cell.
These guys always take a long time to develop, tracing over sheets of paper with an acrylic pen then spending around 10-20 minutes carefully putting paint along the backs of each one. It’s very fun to have all these little paintings, above is a stack of unfinished ones where around 5 are left to be colored. Occasionally I’ll give away a cel to someone I like or hang one up in my basement.
The last 2 images are production art from the video Concert Announcement, a weird advertisement I pulled out of my head onto a piece of paper one night and said “Zippity Do Dah, I want to turn that into a video.” The original bit is a comic strip I then turned into audio in the program Logic, where I make most of the music I have. I’m sticking to cel animation as a main tool as it looks very nice and requires a lot of patience, something our already messed up generation has so little of.
A setup for photographing on my mom’s floor.
Claymation
For that same video I used some stop motion animation, this little clay specimen above is a recurring creature in my projects. When making the video I thought of a scene like this and waddled down my basement to put it together, slightly moving every object to fulfill the sequence I imagined. In total I took 47 pictures, not much compared to some other stop motion bits.
A little creature speaking to the television (green screen is keyed out later).
Editing and MS Paint Animation
Short cartoon for a bigger cartoon.
The editing process is pretty simple, I just put things where they need to go and layer elements. Most of the movement is individual pictures being read by the software.
Bill Tenderson character sheet.
Bill Tenderson is a cartoon character who works for a news station, the news station is a parody of money and fear driven corporations. I learned how to animate in this form from a post Jack Stauber made on an image website, one of my favorite artists. Music
I can’t find a good photo, usually I work with a white MIDI-controller.
Elden Technology
I have a collection of old electronics I use, the ones I use most frequently are CRT TVs and video/audio cassette players. It’s mostly just for fun and the unique mechanical noises with flaws of time give them a very certain flavor. One day I made video tracks to display on a few TVs in my basement, one of an eye and another of a mouth. I composed a piece of music with samples of my voice then put it all on 2 VHS tapes. m
Mungie Splingle
I have a character named Mungie Splingle where I improvise audio-only cartoons of her and her son named Crazy Harry. I made her up in July of 2022 but it took 2 of those years to finally give her a name and half a year to settle on a proper character design. The length of the audio cartoons range from 8-30 minutes. I cannot describe them and they must be experienced. Here’s 3 hours of Mungie Splingle: stuff that happened
Just wait until I have a proper cartoon and comic book of them.
The Future
I am not going to stop making things. I will create with more and more diversity until my limbs are no longer functioning and my brain has no capacity left. The end!
