Every student at Woodford County High School knows about the Black and Gold Day schedule, but is it doing more harm than good? The alternating schedule allows students to attend one set of 4 classes one day and then another set of 4 classes the next day and the cycle repeats. But does this system work and benefit students?
First off, this system allows students to get instruction only in a class 2 times a week. With a traditional schedule, students would be able to attend class all 5 days of the week. With the schedule put in place now, a student could see their teacher on a Thursday, and not see them again until the Monday of the next week. Leaving a 3-day gap where a student will not gain information from that class. With a traditional schedule, students would only have a 2-day gap on Saturday and Sunday and get right back into learning on Monday where they left off on Friday.
With the Black and Gold system that is put in place now, classes are around an hour and 20 minutes long. I believe that this is too long for a class period and is filled with students not being occupied in class because the teacher does not have enough curriculum for a class that is almost an hour and a half in duration. This is another reason why we should do away with the Black and Gold Day system.
In conclusion, the Black and Gold system is not necessary and can hinder students’ education. My key point is that students only get instruction two days a week, which is not enough for them. Students also spend their time unoccupied in class because the class duration is too long on a schedule where they only attend 4 classes.
