Like the picture, life can feel gray and boring. We often find ourselves bored and overthinking, practically drowning in our thoughts. It can be hard to find an activity that helps us when we are feeling this way. Some play games or scroll but others struggle when this happens and may even look for negative ways to fulfill this happiness they are looking for. Today we will discuss why this is, student testimonies of what they do to help, and healthy ways to heal boredom when getting caught in your thoughts.
To begin we must know that it’s nothing weird or odd to be bored but it’s important to understand what is happening and healthy ways to fix this feeling or help ease it. Being bored is something that the brain does according to, https://www.healthline.com, ‘’ Feeling unsatisfied by an activity, or uninterested in it, can lead to boredom. Boredom may occur when you feel energetic but have nowhere to direct your energy. It may also occur when you have difficulty focusing on a task. Boredom is a common complaint among children and adolescents.’’ The key thing to highlight here is that it is the pent up energy that is hard to release and that boredom happens when it’s hard to focus on an activity,often connected with ADHD.
So now that we know why we get bored we must find an activity to get out that energy. Well in accordance with others and tips I have been given, some things can include sports; oftentimes though some of us may be in sports and are just sitting at home. If this is the case then video games are a popular choice; but parents often get mad at us for being on them too much, so if this is the case, take a step outside and color, while playing your favorite music, if you can’t, then play it from your chromebook. Another great thing to do although sometimes may not be considered fun; it is however a way to release pent up energy; this would be to clean your room with music playing. Another thing would be to watch a good show, with your favorite snacks, oftentimes though you can get bored doing this; if so watch it with someone, or even call your friend while watching it. Another thing if you have nobody to talk to, may sound dumb, but talking to your snapchat Ai, could be fun. They also have great ideas on how to cure boredom, some of the ideas listed above are ideas given by the Ai to me to cure boredom.
To finish us off, let’s see what students at WCHS do to cure boredom.
In accordance with a fellow student and Freshman, Emily Tuner, ‘’ When I’m bored I sometimes write a poem about something I’m passionate about, or I read a book, or I watch tv or watch instagram.’’ Another student, Maleah Hamilton said she listens to music when she is bored. Lastly student Audrey Blouser says she, ‘’ loves to play video games or sometimes call friends.’’ So many things were listed including music, writing, talking to friends, and video games. These are all great things to do when you’re bored, so the next time you’re feeling bored or just sitting in your thoughts, think of some of these ideas and even give them a try.
