Everyone knows that there are different types of art. Sculpture, impressionism, abstract, visual, pop, land, graffiti, futurism, etc. Many famous artists have perfected these various styles of art such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, etc. As time went on and created new styles, so did the way art was being made. This leads us to the difference between digital and traditional art and which of the two is better.
The most known and common type of art is traditional. Some might not know exactly what that term means, so here is a simple definition, “traditional art is a form of artistic expression that uses physical mediums to create a work of art.” Physical mediums are pencils, charcoal, oil paints, and clay. So almost every great historical artist was mostly creating, what we call, traditional art. It is a way to put all of the different categories, like painting, literature, sculpture, and architecture, together and make it known that a piece was created with physical mediums.
We put the categories under a simple term because we have, “digital art.” Digital art is exactly how it sounds, art made using technology: Ipads, tablets, computers, even phones. Digital art can be computer-generated, scanned, or even drawn. It is mostly used now to help create logos, media advertisements, producing visual graphic effects, video games, and even animation. Most animated movies use digital art and one of the first full computer-animated films from Disney was Chicken Little in 2005.
After learning the differences and what they are, this now leads me to ask you: which one is better? Well, everybody is different, some could argue that traditional art helps to stop eyes from staring at a screen for hours on end. Others would say that traditional art is too difficult for them. So to say one is better than the other, would be very difficult. In the end, both traditional and digital art are unique and used for different positive purposes for society.
