Need new clubs to join for your college application? Me as well, which is why I took it upon myself to help explore some of the new WCHS 2024 clubs. Many are familiar with some of the older clubs at WCHS, such as Y-Club, FCA, FCCLA, and FFA. However, over the course of the past few years many new clubs have formed. These clubs consist of Young Dems, Young Republicans, Special Olympics, Badminton club, Boys Volleyball, and more.
Something different about this year regarding clubs would be that they are now restricted to only meeting once a month. This becomes an issue within many clubs that feel that is not enough time to discuss plans, goals, etc. It also creates an issue with all club participants being on the same page. An example of this would be Y-Club. Y-Club needs a certain amount of service hours to remain able to attend the multiple conferences a year. In addition, it requires several hours of pre-conference work that simply cannot be completed over the course of one HIVE.
I recommend Y-Club because it gives every student the option to be opinionated and experience sharing their opinion. The club sponsor for Y-Club is the WCHS English teacher, Allison Kifer. You can explore a number of roles in mock government through KYA and KUNA conferences, and connect with your community in the many service projects that the club completes each year.
Other impactful clubs would be Young Democrats with the History teacher, Hope Brown, Young Republicans with Ms. Hudson. These clubs were formed in the last three years and have helped students share their opinions and speak with people of the same beliefs. They also give students the opportunity to make a change that they specifically want to see in the world. Each of these clubs enable members, and potential members, to safely explore politics and advocacy under the guidance of an advisor. Many of these clubs are looking for more members to take the place of the seniors leaving this year.
